3 years after he passed away, it's still hard to post this without getting emotional. But, since most of you only came to know Greg through this league, let me tell you a bit more about who he was.
I was 4 years older and thus he was technically my little brother. I say technically because I'm 5 foot 11 inches and about 180 pounds. Greg measured out about 6 foot 4 and about 240, so he certainly was much more physically imposing than me.
As with lots of brothers, we fought a lot as kids but also had a lot of great times together. We played wiffle ball and basketball in our backyard for hours - I of course beat him about 99% of the time. Even as he grew taller and stronger, I was still too quick for him on the court to keep up with me!
As he grew older, my love of sports rubbed off on Greg more and more. We rarely seemed to root for the same teams, but it was great to see him starting to follow players, stats etc as much as I did. This is probably the main reason both of us had extensive sports card collections and ultimately got into playing fantasy sports.
I remember Greg talking about this league quite a bit and I found it fascinating that we literally have people from around the world. He often asked my advice about who to target in the draft and I still remember helping convince him to draft Luis Scola in the draft that was just getting started the summer he was killed. He also had Kevin Love at the time and my dumb ass didn't think he would turn out to be a great keeper so I quickly dumped him (you're welcome, Cookie!)
He was always more interested in talking sports with me but he was of course genuinely concerned about my well being and how my wife and kids were as well. All in all, he was just a great person that I still miss deeply every day, especially when I'm chomping at the bit to talk sports with someone.
I thank you all for allowing me to take over Greg's team. I won the league title 2 years ago and dedicated that title to Greg. I hope to be able to win at least one more in his honor as well, so don't get used to seeing me near the bottom of the standings like last year any time soon.
Thanks to Doron for creating this wall and I would love it if any of you would care to share any memories of Greg that you have as well.
In loving memory of my "little" brother Greg,
Jeff Schutt (UntouchaBulls)
